THE DESIGN PROCESS

SMALLER SCALE PROJECTS

In a smaller scaled project, sometimes the process can be streamlined:

  1. After our initial meeting, I will prepare a proposal. Once accepted, I will return to the site to photograph and analyze the site. I will often stay and sketch, developing my initial design ideas on site.

  2. I will then return to my studio to further develop my ideas and to more carefully consider the plants and materials.

  3. I will then show you sketches and/or a mockup of my ideas in the garden.

  4. After the meeting, I will make any revisions necessary to the design and prepare a final plant list.

  5. After choosing the plants, I will oversee the installation, either by my crew, or with a contractor.

LARGE SCALE PROJECTS

After an initial phone consultation to determine your needs, the design process begins:

  1. We will walk your property and discuss your goals and dreams for your garden.

  2. I will prepare a proposal, and once accepted, I will photograph the site and analyze it for practical and environmental considerations, which I will draw up in a functional diagram.

  3. I then prepare a preliminary plan (which includes ideas for plants and materials)  and a preliminary budget.

  4. Together we review the preliminary plan, budget, installation schedule, and ideas for plants and materials.

  5. Once I have your input, I will prepare the final plan, with a comprehensive plant list and installation notes.

  6. I will then personally procure the choicest plant material for your project, which will be delivered shortly before installation.

  7. During installation I will oversee the project, making sure that it is installed as designed.
